Fifth stage of my American wine tour has been in the heart of St. Helena.
Casa Nuestra is a small company with 35 years of history behind it that produces about 2000 cases divided into a dozen wines. The peculiarity is the multitude vine types cultivated. A part of these are dissociated from the canonical cultivars grown in the Napa Valley. Casa Nuestra has vineyards of Cab Franc and Riesling with other varieties far rarer such as Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Pfeffer, Alicante Bouschet, Carignane, Mouvedre, Refosco and Napa Gamay, in addition to the usual Merlot, Cabernet, Zinfandel , Syrah, Cab Franc and Riesling.
Vineyards grow without pesticides and seem very lush, with a rich grass covering and sometimes is possible to see goats grazing among vines… Goats, are another distinctive point of Casa Nuestra, breeded not far from the vineyard and also the protagonists of one of their most famous labels.
This company also includes an nice reception structure, made entirely of wood , in the style of American old houses, which gives a dip in the old West … A few meters further, there is also a picnic area, shaded by a series of huge oak trees, which provides a little respite from the hot California sun. Here, visitors can indulge in a little relaxation, sitting on the beautiful chairs or benches made from old barrels (which can also be purchased, among other things),sipping a glass of wine. taking advantage of WiFi coverage.
The tasting includes five wined for $ 10.
